2025 Landscape Lighting Trends: Before & After

See How Landscape Lighting Transforms These Cincinnati-Area Homes

Landscape lighting trends for 2025 will highlight architecture, improve security, and focus on soft illumination (instead of harsh shadows). Also, with improved LED technology, we see more emphasis on warm lighting. Let’s see how LUX Landscape Lighting have helped Cincinnati-area customers with bright ideas for their properties.

2025 Landscape Lighting Trends: Stunning Facades

In our below photo, you’ll see a lovely home that’s never had landscape lighting before. Being up on a hill, it’s a perfect candidate for showing off its stunning features after sunset.

In the after photo, LUX Landscape Lighting has emphasized the entire front of the home. Gentle illumination guides guests from driveway to the front door, while showing off the textured building materials so unique to this property. We’ve also focused on the beautiful landscaping tree, which will become a focal point as it continues to grow.

2025 Landscape Lighting Trends: Modernizing Your Lighting Look

This homeowner has enjoyed landscape lighting for several years, but over time, the harsh contrast of light and shadow lost its appeal. In the early days of landscape lighting, installers sometimes went a little wild with the brightest lights available. Check out this before photo:

In our after photo, you’ll see that we have softened the look by reducing the lighting intensity and allowing softer shadows by illuminating ornamental trees. Also, the viewer can enjoy the entire height of the home, with lights on the second story and attic.

2025 Landscape Lighting Trends: Illuminating Trees

Speaking of trees, we love them! Illuminating trees is probably our favorite 2025 landscape lighting trend. See if you can spot the trees in this before photo.

In the above photo, the ornamental tree is simply in the way, creating an obstruction in front of the home’s entrance. We wanted to make this home as beautiful at night as during the day, nestled in a wooded setting. Now, you can see at least four trees surrounding the home, contrasted with the color and texture of the brick.

2025 Landscape Lighting Trends: Increased Security

Landscape lighting’s brightest appeal is certainly aesthetics. But a lighting design can also increase safety and security around your property. Squint your eyes and see if you can make out this detached garage. The before photo shows just how challenging it might be to navigate the walkway to the home. Also, these dark shadows may attract criminal activity.

With landscape lighting, we can improve visibility in an attractive way. This cedar siding is perfect for wall-washing, and is a much gentler illumination than conventional security lighting, like motion lights.

2025 Landscape Lighting Trends: Color-Changing Lights

One of our favorite customers wanted more fun with their landscape lighting. This home’s Christmas decorations look just lovely in the daytime, but it was a struggle to show festivity through the night (and December is a very dark month). Here’s the before:

LUX Landscape Lighting went all out in installing smart, color-changing LED lighting that can be configured for light shows that celebrate holidays and events year-round. In our after photo, you see a Christmas program. Truly, this home needs to be seen to entirely appreciate it. Check out our video “Christmas in July with Color-Changing LED Landscape Lighting.”

2025 Landscape Lighting Trends: Focus on Architecture

Many homes in the Cincinnati area feature interesting and striking architecture. We’re known for our neighborhoods full of unique character. Here’s one modern home before photo, and our customer sought to elevate it to elegance after dusk.

When the eye is drawn to the sweeping arches, the home’s rectangular windows fade into the background. Without landscape lighting, this home looked somewhat awkward in the dark. But now, it soars to the sky (which is why we also lit up the chimney).

2025 Landscape Lighting Trends: Light Up the Entire Outline

In previous years, it was popular to light up just the first floor of a home. A 2025 landscape lighting trend will be to illuminate all the edges of the home’s front, a sort of reverse-silhouette. Here’s a before photo of a home, showing the edges in shadow.

2025 Landscape Lighting Trends: Before & After

In our after photo, LUX Landscape Lighting has sent light to every corner of the house, from left to right, top to bottom– even including the ornamental trees on the side. The eye is most pleased when it can see something in its entirety. And that’s why the lighting portrait of this home helps the viewer feel satisfied.

2025 Landscape Lighting Trends: Softness, Not Contrast

The before photo of this home shows bright lights on the front porch and dark shadows everywhere else. Our challenge was to maintain the brightness near the front door, while making it less glaring and difficult to look at in darkness.

We expanded the lighting portrait by adding wall-wash lights up the prominent “tower.” Illuminating some of the organic landscaping elements softened the picture and gave the eye somewhere to travel other than the porch lighting. Also, it’s much safer to navigate the driveway and sidewalk now.

2025 Landscape Lighting Trends: Create Shadows with Landscaping

This homeowner’s home has always been dark after sunset. They wanted to create interesting effects to add distinction to their home’s appearance. In the before photo, all you see are lights from the interior.

2025 Landscape Lighting Trends: Before & After

We enjoyed starting with a blank slate on this project. Along with following the modern 2025 landscape lighting trends of soft, warm light, we personalized the design to add interesting, organic shadows using the customer’s landscaping.  You don’t see it in the static photograph, of course, but the movements of the shadows in the breeze are quite pleasant.
