This Message Brought to Your By a Friendly Neighborhood Frog
We were out at a customer’s property when we discovered this little frog friend inspecting our work (we got a ribbit of approval). And it reminded us how much safer and environmentally-friendly LED landscaping lights are than the old systems. If this lighting system had been incandescent, let’s just say that we wouldn’t have taken any pictures.
LED Landscape Lighting Runs Cooler, so it’s Safer for Kids and Animals
LED landscape lighting is low-voltage, which means it runs at a cooler temperature than incandescent bulbs.
Have you ever touched an incandescent bulb and came away with a burn? They reach dangerously high temperatures:
“A 100-watt incandescent light bulb has a filament temperature of approximately 4,600 degrees Fahrenheit. The surface temperature of incandescent light bulbs varies from 150 to more than 250 degrees.”
LED landscape lighting does produce some heat, at least enough to melt snow from around your lighting fixture. But LED landscape lighting bulbs are safe to the touch.
Less Heat Energy Means More Light Energy
Because 90% of an incandescent bulb’s energy is lost as heat, and only 10% is converted to light, these bulbs are expensive to run. About 30% of an LED bulb’s energy is converted to heat, making it 70% efficient.
Using less energy for the same result is good for your wallet and good for the environment. Check out this article for a deeper dive: Why Landscape Lighting LED?
